What Are You Waiting On?

For Gates County member-owner Matt Ashley, the answer is simple. If you have the opportunity to connect to Fybe internet service, his question is, "What are you waiting on?"

Matt has been connected since fiber first became available in his area. In fact, he was on the waiting list, eager for a better option than what was available before. Living in a rural community often means making do with limited choices, especially when it comes to internet service. Before Roanoke Cooperative built its fiber network in Gates County, reliable high-speed internet wasn't something many families could take for granted.

"When the fiber came, it was a big deal," Matt said.

Today, that same network powers Fybe internet service throughout the region, helping families stay connected at home, at work, and everywhere in between. For Matt, the experience started with installer Tremayne, who made a lasting impression.

"I love Tremayne," Matt said with a laugh. "He was laid back, easygoing, respectful, and made sure everything was done the way I wanted it."

That level of service continued long after installation day. When a lightning strike damaged equipment at his home, Matt made a call. The next morning, a technician was there replacing the damaged equipment and restoring his connection. "I called one afternoon, and the next morning they were there," he said.

These days, internet service is woven into nearly every part of daily life for the Ashley family. Smart home devices, streaming services, and Wi-Fi coverage that reaches from the house to the shop all depend on a connection they can count on.

Even with other providers now available in the area, Matt says he has no plans to switch. "I love it," he said.

For Roanoke Cooperative, stories like Matt's are exactly why the cooperative invested in bringing fiber to rural communities. Reliable broadband isn't just about technology. It's about making sure families have access to the same opportunities and conveniences available elsewhere.

Looking at the difference it has made for his family, Matt will ask anyone when they can’t decide if they want Fybe:"What are you waiting on?"
