Powering the Future: Roanoke Cooperative Contributes to the Largest Tesla Charging Site on the East Coast

Roanoke Cooperative is proud to announce the completion of 48 additional Tesla charging stations at the Oasis Gas Station, supplementing the 12 chargers already in place at the location in Roanoke Rapids, supporting a significant milestone in the community’s journey toward sustainable transportation. This two-year project highlights the Cooperative’s dedication to innovation, teamwork, and infrastructure development in support of clean energy solutions.

The new Tesla charging stations, now operational, were installed with essential contributions from Roanoke Cooperative’s line crews and service technicians. From constructing power lines to placing multiple pad-mounted transformers, the Cooperative played a pivotal role in bringing this project to fruition. The placement of four pad-mounted transformers was a critical step in connecting the chargers to the grid, ensuring their reliable operation for the public. This site is now the largest Tesla charging station on the East Coast, highlighting the strength of our partnership with Tesla. The benefits of this collaboration are already being felt across our cooperative membership. Additionally, this expansion positions our region as a major hub for electric vehicle (EV) charging along the I-95 corridor, establishing Roanoke Rapids as a key destination for EV travelers.

“We are thrilled to have been an integral part of this transformative project,” said Jimmy Liverman, VP Engineering & Operations of Roanoke Cooperative. “It’s exciting to see how our team’s efforts have contributed to the development of sustainable infrastructure in Roanoke Rapids, supporting both local and regional travelers.”

The Tesla charging stations at the Oasis Gas Station are expected to serve as a key resource for electric vehicle owners traveling along major routes in the region, enhancing convenience, and promoting the use of sustainable energy.

Roanoke Cooperative is proud to have supported Tesla and other stakeholders in this landmark project. As the Cooperative continues to explore opportunities to support renewable energy initiatives, it remains committed to serving its members and advancing the energy landscape in North Carolina.
