At Roanoke Cooperative, we’re always looking for ways to help our member-owners take control of their energy use and save money. That’s why we want to make sure you’re aware of an important update to our Time of Day (TOD) Metering program.
As of April 16, the on-peak hours have changed to 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
This adjustment better reflects when electricity demand is highest across our system—helping ensure fairness, efficiency, and continued value for those enrolled in the program.
What This Means for You
If you’re currently enrolled in Time of Day metering, this new window is the time when electricity costs more due to higher demand. By shifting your energy use outside of these hours, you can maximize your savings.
Simple changes can make a big difference, like:
- Running dishwashers and laundry in the morning or later in the evening
- Adjusting your thermostat a few degrees before 2:00 p.m.
- Charging electric vehicles overnight
Why Time of Day Metering Works
Time of Day metering is designed to reward you for using electricity when demand—and costs—are lower. Instead of paying the same rate all day, you have the opportunity to actively manage your bill based on when you use energy.
Benefits include:
- 💡 Lower monthly bills when you shift usage to off-peak hours
- ⚡ Greater control over how and when you use electricity
- 🌎 A stronger, more efficient grid, benefiting all member-owners
- 🤝 Supporting your cooperative’s mission to serve members smarter and better
Is Time of Day Metering Right for You?
If your schedule allows flexibility—whether you’re at work during the day, able to automate appliances, or simply mindful of when you use energy—Time of Day metering can be a great fit.
Many of our member-owners are already seeing the benefits of making small adjustments that lead to real savings.
Take the Next Step
If you’re not currently enrolled, now is a great time to consider making the switch. With the updated on-peak hours from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., it’s easier than ever to plan your energy use and start saving.
