In October 2025, Roanoke Cooperative’s Operation Round Up program awarded a total of $6,667.42 in community grants to three local organizations working to strengthen education, address food insecurity, and expand environmental learning opportunities. These grants are made possible by participating member-owners who voluntarily round up their monthly electric bills to the nearest dollar, with the extra change staying right here in our communities.
Following the October 25, 2025 trustee meeting, Operation Round Up funds were distributed to Northeast Academy, Ahoskie Food Pantry, and Sylvan Heights Bird Park—each making a meaningful difference across northeastern North Carolina.
Northeast Academy received $2,167.42 to make essential improvements to its baseball field, including rebuilding the pitching mound, replacing home plate, and repairing the dugouts. These upgrades will help ensure a safe, sustainable playing environment for student-athletes as participation in the program continues to grow.
The Ahoskie Food Pantry was awarded $3,000.00 to support its Power Pack Program, which provides nutritious weekend food packs to food-insecure children attending Bearfield and Riverview Public Schools. The funding will help ensure students have access to healthy meals outside of the school week, supporting their well-being and readiness to learn.
Sylvan Heights Bird Park received $1,500.00 to support its education and conservation mission through improved enclosures and equipment for its live education animals. The funding will help ensure animal ambassadors can be safely cared for and used in both on-site and off-site educational programs.
Making Small Change Add Up
Operation Round Up reflects the cooperative principle of Concern for Community, proving that small contributions can create a big impact when pooled together. One hundred percent of Operation Round Up funds are returned to the community through grants awarded to local nonprofits, schools, and organizations.
Roanoke Cooperative is proud to partner with organizations like Northeast Academy, Ahoskie Food Pantry, and Sylvan Heights Bird Park as they work to improve lives, educate future generations, and strengthen the communities we serve.
