December 2023 Edition – The Power Pulse: Reflecting on a Year of Innovation and Service

As we approach the end of another remarkable year, I find myself reflecting on the journey we've taken together. This year has been one of transformation, innovation, and steadfast dedication to serving our valued member-owners and communities.

We began this year with a bold step, rebranding our electric cooperative as Roanoke Cooperative, signifying the broad spectrum of services we offer. This change was more than a new name and logo; it represented our commitment to evolve and better serve you. Our new mission, to pursue innovation relentlessly, has been the guiding force behind our actions, propelling us to provide the finest, most reliable, and cost-efficient services in our industry.

Fybe, our broadband subsidiary, underwent a similar transformation, rebranding to symbolize our dedication to providing universal broadband service. Expanding into unserved and underserved areas across North Carolina remains a priority, and I'm thrilled to share that our efforts will soon allow us to serve over 70% of our member-owners within the next few months.

Beyond these monumental changes, our commitment to sustainability and community engagement has been resolute. Our Sustainable Forestry and Land Project, celebrating its 10th year, continues to empower family-owned forestland while promoting regional forest health. Moreover, our team's dedication to safety was honored by the visit of the state's Commissioner of Labor, recognizing our commitment to excellence in the Carolina Star Program.

Our involvement in community activities has been a source of pride. We successfully installed Gates County’s first fast EV public charger in Eure, NC, marking a significant step towards supporting sustainable transportation options in the area. Additionally, our employees have been actively engaged in volunteer activities, contributing their time and efforts to various community initiatives, ranging from educational programs to environmental clean-ups. Their dedication to making a difference beyond the scope of their roles is truly commendable.

Furthermore, our investment in a new software enterprise platform has enhanced the experience for both our electric cooperative member-owners and broadband subscribers. In line with our commitment to innovation, we've partnered with clean energy advocates to bring solar ownership to income-qualified individuals. Additionally, our intensified data management efforts aim to optimize our electrical grid's efficiency, ensuring maximum value from our investments.

As we conclude this year, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to each of you for allowing us the privilege of serving you. Your support and trust enable us to continue our pursuit of excellence, and we remain dedicated to being your most trusted service provider.

Wishing you and your loved ones a joyous holiday season and a prosperous new year.

Sincerely,

Marshall Cherry

President and CEO, Roanoke Cooperative
