At Roanoke Cooperative, we’re committed to helping you take more control of your energy use—and your energy costs. One of the ways we do that is through our Time-of-Day (TOD) rate program, which rewards you for using electricity during times when demand (and prices) are lower.
What’s Changing in the TOD Schedule?
Beginning July 1, 2025, the on-peak hours for our TOD rate will be updated to reflect new patterns in energy demand across the grid. On-peak hours will now apply every day, including weekends and holidays, as follows:
- October 16 – April 15: 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM
- April 16 – October 15: 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM
All other hours remain off-peak.
This change is based on updated information from our wholesale power provider, which shows that peak demand is no longer limited to traditional weekday hours. By aligning our rate structure with these shifts, we’re ensuring it continues to reflect actual system costs while supporting a more efficient and reliable electric grid.
A Friendly Reminder About TOD Participation
We’ve had several great conversations lately with member-ownerss who are interested in the TOD program. As a quick reminder:
The Time-of-Day rate is a voluntary program. If you haven’t specifically enrolled and had a TOD meter installed at your location, you are likely not on this rate.
If you’re not sure which rate you’re on—or if you’re considering whether TOD might be a good fit—our Member Services team is always happy to help you review your options.
Meter Reprogramming for TOD Participants
For those currently on the TOD rate, your meter will need to be reprogrammed to reflect the new schedule. In most cases, this will be done remotely. If remote programming is not possible, a Roanoke Cooperative technician will complete the update at your location. There’s no action needed on your part—we’ll take care of everything to ensure your meter is updated correctly.
Making TOD Work for You
The TOD rate remains a great opportunity to save if you’re able to shift usage outside of peak hours. A few smart adjustments can go a long way:
- In the winter, warm your home before 6:00 AM.
- In the summer, cool your home before 2:00 PM and use ceiling fans to maintain comfort.
- Run appliances like dishwashers, washers/dryers, and EV chargers during off-peak times.
- Smart thermostats and programmable timers can help automate these changes.
